Objective

Responsible for Fire/EMS, Police, Court, Public Works, Buildings, Tax, Water, and Administration, this city provides comprehensive critical services to its residents.

For many years, the city operated with aging technology, fragmented oversight, and growing risk across multiple departments and physical locations. Important systems were wearing out, essential information lived on unstable computers, and daily operations depended on outdated and insecure tools. The objective was to rebuild the city’s IT foundation into a unified, modern, resilient environment that could support reliable, long‑term municipal operations.

The city faced several challenges that limited its ability to work efficiently and safely. Different municipal areas managed their own technology independently, which created inconsistent practices, duplicated costs, and no shared oversight. Many systems were more than a decade old and no longer supported, with some suffering hardware failures or broken functions. Network equipment across locations was outdated, causing slow performance and reliability issues. Communication systems were outdated as well, including archaic and insecure email services. Staff lacked modern tools, safe remote access, and ongoing training. Several higher-liability properties lacked appropriate physical security or even basic internet service. Altogether, this created a high‑risk environment marked by unreliable backups, obsolete systems, risky situations, and increasing maintenance problems..

Solution

Slingshot introduced a coordinated, city‑wide IT approach to replace the fragmented environment. The work began by creating centralized management and consistent standards that fit the needs of multiple municipal locations.

A modern server setup was built to support all city sites while still allowing certain sensitive systems to remain separate when appropriate. High‑risk systems were rebuilt and moved into this secure setup, removing reliance on aging desktop machines and unsafe configurations.

Networking across all locations was upgraded to provide modern internet service, consistent performance, reliable connections, and easier system management. Communication and collaboration tools were replaced with secure, cloud‑based services that support mobile use, syncing, and improved usability.

Security was strengthened through modern protections, secure access, managed backups, and continuous monitoring.  Slingshot also introduced security awareness training—both initial and ongoing—to help staff use technology safely.

For one high-liability property, Slingshot engineered & installed a cutting-edge 14-camera  4K surveillance system, easily expandable, centrally manageable & remotely accessible by staff from any modern device.

During the transition, several long‑serving staff members who previously carried much of the IT knowledge retired. Slingshot ensured continuity by capturing institutional knowledge, documenting important information, and keeping operations stable during these staffing changes.

All phases of the work—from preparation through upgrades, moves, cutovers, and retiring old systems—were completed smoothly and with minimal disruption.

Results

The city now operates on a coordinated IT foundation that supports all municipal locations with consistent oversight and reliable support. Modern, centrally managed systems have replaced outdated, pieced‑together setups. Connections between sites are now stable and dependable, improving communication and operations across the city.

Staff now benefit from improved capabilities such as secure remote access, synced devices, updated communication tools, and a smoother day‑to‑day experience. Stronger security, monitored backups, and organized management have significantly reduced risk and improved readiness for unexpected events. The new environment also better supports the city’s alignment with common municipal compliance requirements.

The city is now positioned to:
  • Operate more reliably across all locations
  • Coordinate services effectively with a unified technical foundation
  • Maintain continuity even when staff change or retire
  • Protect sensitive information with stronger safeguards
  • Monitor high-liability properties for criminal and safety concerns
  • Avoid disruptions caused by failing or outdated systems
  • Provide faster responses to staff and operational needs
  • Support long‑term planning with predictable, strategic IT management
  • Keep improving without relying on individual employees to hold things together

Slingshot’s modernization has equipped the city for a safer, more stable, and more efficient future.
